Bringing Professionals Together for the Benefit of All

The Energy Minerals Division (EMD) is one of three divisions of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the largest professional association of geoscientists in the world. Organized in 1977, EMD serves as an international forum for those working in the exploration, development, and production of energy sources other than conventional oil and gas. The division promotes economic analyses of these energy resources and supports professionals in the geospatial information field.

Why You Should Join the Energy Minerals Division

EMD provides a forum for professional development in energy minerals, unconventional hydrocarbons, energy economics, geothermal energy, and geospatial information.

EMD offers coal geologist certification, discounts, information, and networking to its members.

CERTIFICATION: In conjunction with the Division of Professional Affairs, the EMD offers peer-reviewed, professional certification for coal geologists (application forms are available on the web site). Certification recognizes qualified professionals that subscribe to a strict code of ethics and possess relevant education and experience.

DISCOUNTS: EMD members receive discounts on EMD-sponsored short courses and field trips at the AAPG annual and sectional conventions.
