Jose Abelardo Sanchez Araiza serves as the EMD Councilor of the Latin American Region. He is a member of Asociación Mexicana de Geólogos Petroleros (AMGP), Sociedad Geológica Mexicana (SGM), Gulf Coast Association of Geological Societies (GCAGS), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the EMD.
His work experiences the direction of Oceanographic Research at Mexican Navy on Marine Pollution Prevention. With John E. Chance and Associates, Surveyor Engineers and Topomar S. A. in Marine Dynamic Positioning, Surveys and Hazard Assessment and Mapping for Marine facilities and installations. Also, he has worked at Pemex, South Region and Central Offices on Surface and Subsurface Petroleum Exploration, Plays Analysis and Assessment, and is former Technical Assistant of The Pemex Exploration Vice-president (Exploration Sub-director). He currently leads post-drilling Analysis and Assessment of Exploration Wells at Pemex South Region. He teaches Geology for Petroleum Engineers and, Geosciences students at Olmeca University, Villahermosa, Tabasco.
He graduated with a B.Sc. from The National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in geology (1980), and holds a Master's Degree in Exploration of Energetic Resources at National University (1998).
